New Zealand’s Glenn Turner is the first player to cross 150 in an ODI. The opening batsman struck 171 off 201 balls against a hapless East Africa In the inaugural edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup in 1975. Eight years later, Kapil Dev’s whirlwind knock of 175* against Zimbabwe in Tunbridge Wells became the new highest score in ODI by a player.

The great Vivian Richards has scored 180+ scores twice in ODIs. The swashbuckling Caribbean batsman made 189* against England in Manchester and hit 181 against Sri Lanka in the 1987 World Cup group stage fixture. Legendary left-hand batters Saeed Anwar, Sanath Jayasuriya, Gary Kirsten, and Sourav Ganguly have all come close to becoming the first player to score 200 runs in an ODI.

At 37, Sachin Tendulkar scripted a new history in men’s cricket. The ‘Master Blaster’ became the first men’s cricketer to score a double hundred in ODI cricket. The South Africa bowlers, led by Dale Steyn, were thrashed to all parts of the Captain Roop Singh Stadium. 

Ex-Australia cricketer Belinda Clark registered the first double hundred in international cricket. Incidentally, it also came in India as she scored 229 against Denmark in Mumbai in the 1997 Women’s World Cup.

Seven players joined the 200 Club ever since Sachin Tendulkar created history in 2010. Virender Sehwag is the second cricketer to hit a double after he made 219 against West Indies in Indore. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma became the first player to cross 250 as the ‘Hitman’ butchered and battered Sri Lankan bowlers at the iconic Eden Gardens in 2014. 

Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill became the first West Indies and New Zealand cricketers to achieve the feat. Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman and the Indian duo of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill are the other players to surpass 200 runs in an ODI. Ishan struck the double century from a record 126 balls.

Rohit Sharma – Highest Score in ODI by a Player

In 2014, cricket fans in Kolkata witnessed one of the most incredible feats in international cricket. Rohit Sharma went berserk against Sri Lanka in the penultimate ODI of the five-match series. He scored a run-ball hundred and struck another 164 runs in the next 73 balls. Rohit’s 264 runs is one of the most entertaining knocks in cricket and remains the highest score in ODI by a player.

Rohit Sharma is the only player to score more than one double hundred in ODIs. At Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Mumbai Indians skipper made 209 against Australia. It was his first double hundred in ODIs.

He hit a third double-century in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old hit 12 sixes on his way to an unbeaten 208 at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

Highest Score in Women’s ODI Cricket

Amelia Kerr holds the record for the highest score in women’s ODI cricket. The 232* against Ireland is the highest individual score in women’s ODIs. She took only 145 balls to rewrite the record and is third in the list of top scores in the 50-over format.

All-rounder Deepti Sharma has the most runs in an ODI by an Indian women’s batter. She made 188 against Ireland in 2017.
