Big Bash League schedule for the 2022-23 season is official now. Eight franchises will vie for the 12th edition of Australia’s premier T20 tournament. Sydney Thunder will play Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval on December 13 in the opening match of Big Bash League 2022-23.

Launched in 2011, BBL is now an integral part of the cricket calendar. It is the second most popular T20 event after the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from top Australian cricketers, some of the finest T20 players from England, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Afghanistan have graced the tournament.
Perth Scorchers are the most successful franchise in BBL. They have reached seven finals and won the tournament four times – 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17, and 2021-22. Sydney Sixers have clinched the BBL three times, while Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Renegades, and Sydney Thunder have lifted the title once.
The BBL 2022-23 edition will see David Warner returning to the Australian T20 League after a nine-year absence. The 36-year-old has penned a two-year deal with Sydney Thunder. Rashid Khan, Alex Hales, Faf du Plessis, Shadab Khan, and Trent Boult are some of the top overseas players set to feature in the BBL.

BBL Schedule – Venues
The BBL 12 is played across 17 venues in Australia. Adelaide Oval and Perth Stadium will host seven matches each, while six games will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Gabba, Sydney Cricket Ground, Bellerive Oval, and Docklands Stadium will hold five matches each. Three new grounds – Cazaly’s Stadium, Lavington Sports Oval, and North Sydney Oval – will host a match each.
BBL Schedule – Derby Dates
The Melbourne and Sydney derbies are the most eagerly anticipated fixtures in BBL. Melbourne Stars enjoy an excellent head-to-head record over cross-town rivals Melbourne Renegades, winning 15 wins of the 22 matches. Meanwhile, Sydney Sixers won 14 of the 21 meetings against neighbors Sydney Thunder in BBL.
The first Melbourne BBL derby of the 12th edition will take place on January 3, while the reverse fixture is set to be played on January 14. Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers take on each other in the opening Sydney Derby of BBL 12 on January 8. Both franchises will meet again on January 21.
