1. Mitchell Starc

The fiery left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has only featured in two IPL seasons. Both came in Royal Challengers Bangalore colors, taking 34 wickets at an economy of 7.17 in 27 matches. After an excellent World Cup campaign, the 33-year-old will be in huge demand. In 2014, RCB acquired Starc for ₹5 crore, but the Aussie will likely earn much bigger this time and is one of the candidates to become the most expensive player in the IPL 2024 season.

2. Travis Head

Travis Head had no takers at the  PL 2023 auction. However, he is among the IPL auction marquee players in the 2024 edition, thanks to his stellar performances in the 2023 World Cup. The left-handed batter, who has transformed himself into a brilliant white-ball cricketer, has a healthy strike rate of 134 in the 20-over format. With a few franchises having big cash purses available, Head will most likely set the auction tables under fire on December 19.

3. Rachin Ravindra

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra showcased his talent in the 2023 World Cup with terrific batting. The youngster, who can also bowl some quality left-arm spin, amassed 578 runs, the joint-highest run tally by a New Zealand batter in a World Cup. With his Bengaluru connection and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru looking for a quality batter at the top, the all-rounder could be the franchise’s No. 1 target at the auction. And there will be stiff competition for the 23-year-old’s signature.

4. Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga has plenty of admirers in IPL despite missing out on the 2023 World Cup with an injury and being axed by Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Sri Lankan, bought for ₹10.75 crore at the mega auction, can deceive the batters with variations and score handy runs. While he may not match the IPL 2022 auction bid, Hasaranga will be in demand due to his consistency and prolificness in the white-ball format.

5. Gerald Coetzee

Young South African pacer Gerald Coetzee is another player to feature in the 2024 IPL auction marquee list. He was South Africa’s top wicket-taker and the only non-Asian pacer to grab 20 wickets in the 2023 World Cup. Coetzee, who went unsold in IPL 2022 and 2023 auctions, has an excellent strike rate of 14.5 in the T20s, and his exploits in the ODI grand event in India make him a hot property in the upcoming auction.

Dilshan Madushanka, Shardul Thakur, Harry Brook, etc., are other marquee players in the IPL 2024 auction.

Concluding Thoughts

There are many talented players in the IPL 2024 auction list. The IPL auction marquee players will indeed trigger a bidding war in Dubai. Cricket fans will be hoping to see new players who perform well and take the IPL T20 excitement to the next level.
